Paramount Pictures' Love and Monsters, the first feature film to be produced at Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane when it opened in January 2019, has received an Academy Award® nomination within the Visual Effects category.

Screen Queensland congratulates the VFX team who worked on the monsterpocalypse adventure film, including Queensland VFX practitioners Brian Cox and Matt Sloan, alongside Matt Everitt and fellow Australian Genevieve Camilleri.

Supported by the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland's Production Attraction Strategy, Love and Monsters, filmed at Screen Queensland Studios in Hemmant and on location throughout wider Brisbane in 2019, contributed more than $29 million to the local economy and created 260 jobs for Queenslanders.

Screen Queensland's Head of Studios, Derek Hall praised the VFX team for their achievement in such a competitive field, adding what a thrill it was to see Love and Monsters, the first feature film out of Screen Queensland Studios, on the list.

"This is a prestigious honour for our highly skilled local VFX practitioners and serves to draw even more global attention on the depth and experience of screen industry talent based right here in Queensland," Mr Hall said.

Speaking about the nomination Gold Coast-based, Brian Cox said he was excited to be nominated alongside his colleagues for an Academy Award and proud to see Australian VFX skill recognised.

"Australia boasts some of the best VFX practitioners working here and abroad, and it's a huge buzz for our team to be nominated for doing the work we love on films that entertain and delight movie-goers around the world," Mr Cox said.

Available now in the US on Amazon Prime Video, an Australian release date for Love and Monsters is soon to be announced.

Filming on the NBC hit series, Young Rock, recently wrapped at Screen Queensland Studios with Joe Exotic - another Universal Studios Group production - to move onto the lot next month.
