Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM inspected a major pothole at the intersection of Seabeach Parade and St Georges Road today.
While Council tends to be responsible for local roads, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) are responsible for more significant roads such as highways and freeways.
When reporting any road concerns, it's important to use the map of DTP managed roads on their website to check who is the responsible authority, as Council can only fix potholes on roads under our authority.
The intersection of Seabeach Parade and St Georges Road is a DTP responsibility.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM:
In addition to being a safety hazard, this major pothole is also a terrible first impression for people arriving in Geelong from the nearby Spirit of Tasmania. This intersection is the responsibility of the DTP, so I have written to them and to the local member Ella George MP to request urgent action.
It's clear from the size and scale of this pothole that a significant fix, rather than a simple patch job, is needed.
I hope this significant fix happens as soon as possible to ensure our roads are at the standard that we expect and deserve.
You can report a concern with a City of Greater Geelong road on our website .
