Sealers Cove Walking Track Rebuild Starts

Parks Victoria

Construction is underway on the major rebuild of the Sealers Cove walking track at Wilsons Promontory National Park, restoring one of the Prom's most iconic and best-loved hikes.

The walking track to Sealers Cove has been closed since severe storm damage and flooding caused washed-out sections, and unsafe conditions along the route. After extensive planning, environmental assessments, and preparation, crews are now on the ground to rebuild the track to a safer, more resilient standard.

The upgrade will include improved track surfaces and increasing the height of the boardwalk to withstand heavy rainfall and coastal flooding. These improvements will help ensure the trail remainsopen to hikers for years to come.

Parks Victoria Manager of Regional Delivery Andrew Davies said the start of works on the track is a major step toward reopening a key visitor drawcard at the Prom.

"Sealers Cove is a truly special place, and we know how much this walk means to hikers and to the wider community. Beginning construction is a big moment, and we're excited to be able to bring this hike back – stronger and more resilient than before."

Construction crews will operate with strict environmental protections in place, ensuring minimal disturbance to wildlife and surrounding habitats.

Track works will continue through the first half of 2026, with the project expected to be complete in late autumn, subject to weather. Progress updates will be shared on the Parks Victoria website as the project advances.

Visitors are reminded that the Sealers Cove track remains closed during construction. Parks Victoria thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while this important work is completed
