Search and rescue exercise in Central Highlands, TAS

About 130 Police and volunteers will converge on the Central Highlands and test their skills in a search and rescue exercise this Saturday, Tasmania Police say.

Police will be joined by members of the State Emergency Service, Inland Fisheries, Surf Life Saving Tasmania, mounted Search & Rescue members and volunteer bushwalking groups.

Land based operators will be conducting a ground search in the area between Great Lake and Lake Augusta with watercraft searching Great Lake. Weather dependent, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter will also be involved.

"It is an excellent opportunity for a number of groups involved in search and rescue in Tasmania to come together and test our skills," said Senior Constable Michael Preshaw.

"Practical exercises at a scale like this are invaluable as they’re designed to test how agencies and volunteer organisations work together."
