Search and rescue, Mount Barney

Police and other emergency services are attempting a search and rescue operation on Mount Barney, Queensland Police say.

Around 12.50pm, police received information that three people were rock climbing on the eastern cliff face known as Governor which is popular with sports climbers.

It appears that one of the climbers has fallen several hundred metres from their rope for unknown reasons.

General duties police from Logan attended and a police search and rescue coordinator is now at the scene managing the incident.

The two climbers remaining on the cliff are in communication with emergency services but cannot self-extricate either up or down and cannot see their climbing partner.

An emergency helicopter has surveyed the area but has so far been unable to locate him.

There is no further information available.
