Search for driver following near miss on the Princes Freeway

Police are searching for a driver after an incident this morning on the Western Ring Road near the Princes Freeway on ramp, Victoria Police say.

The driver of a utility vehicle, believed to be a silver Holden Rodeo Ute, failed to obey emergency service lane closure and diversions relating to a separate incident.

About 7.30am, the vehicle failed to merge left and continued through the blocked right lane, narrowly missing police members.

The vehicle then collided with a semi-trailer travelling in the left lane.

The collision caused the utility to slide around an emergency services vehicle and scarcely avoided striking another emergency service worker.

The driver then fled from the scene and travelled westbound on the Princes Freeway.

Luckily, no one was injured during this incident.

Police from Altona North are investigating the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

They are also particularly keen to speak to any motorists who may have captured dashcam vision of the collision.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
