Search for driver travelling on wrong side of freeway at Pentland Hills

Police are searching for the driver of a four-wheel drive that caused a serious crash after it drove into oncoming traffic at Pentland Hills last week, Victoria Police say.

The grey or black SUV, towing a red Wakesetter ski boat, was seen driving east in the west-bound lanes of the Western Freeway, at the Mortons Road overpass, about 9.50am on Wednesday 13 December.

To avoid a head-on collision, a 37-year-old was forced to take evasive action and collided into the rear of a truck.

Despite the extensive damage to his vehicle, he was taken to hospital with only minor injuries.

The SUV moved into the correct lane of traffic and continued travelling east towards Bacchus Marsh/Melbourne and did not stop.

Police believe there were numerous other drivers that would have witnessed the incident and urge those people to speak to police.

Investigators would also be keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicle travelling in the area or of the actual collision to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
