Search for men following CBD sexual assault

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad are appealing for information after a woman was sexually assaulted in the Melbourne CBD in July, Victoria Police say.

The woman was in the Melbourne CBD on 29 July for a night out with friends.

Investigators believe she travelled around the city between 11pm and 3am, walking and catching public transport.

She has walked past a vehicle under Queens Bridge about 3.30am and it is there that police believe she was approached by two men in a vehicle.

The men told the victim it was a ride-share vehicle and she has gotten into the car.

The woman was then driven to Albert Park, where she was sexually assaulted.

She punched one of the offenders in the face and managed to get out of the car before contacting police.

Over the past months detectives have gone through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage in an attempt to track the woman’s movements through the CBD.

The two men are perceived to be of Indian or sub-continental appearance and aged between 25 and 35-years-old.

The vehicle involved is believed to be silver, mid 2000s model Toyota Yaris hatch.

Investigators have released CCTV of the car on the night, as well as an image of a similar vehicle, in the hope that someone may be able to assist in identifying the men.

Detectives have also released CCTV images of a man they are hoping to identify who they believe had spoken to the victim earlier in the night.

He is believed to be a witness only and not involved in the incident.

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
