Search for missing women, NSW

A search will continue tomorrow for two women who are believed to be missing in the Royal National Park at Sutherland, NSW Police say.

About 2pm today, officers from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) received a call from two 21-year-old women, Nicki Groves and Kate Bateup.

The two women said they were missing in the Royal National Park after walking on an unknown track east from Waterfall Railway Station.

Contact with the women was lost, and emergency services have not been able to re-establish communication with them.

Police from Sutherland Local Area Command were notified shortly after the call and launched a search with assistance from the Lifesaver helicopter, the Rural Fire Service (RFS), State Emergency Service (SES), and park rangers.

The search was suspended about 7pm due to darkness.

It is expected the search will resume tomorrow morning.

It is unknown if the women are still lost, or if they were able to make their way out. Police would ask the women to contact them if they have successfully made it out of the National Park.

Likewise, anyone with information on their whereabouts are asked to contact police immediately.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
