Search for new street library artist - Wollongong

Wollongong City Council is on the hunt for a local community artist to create an engaging artwork for a new Street Library (also known as a Book Box).

The new Street Library will be installed later this year at Luke's Place Playground in Corrimal. The successful artist will be commissioned to design an original artwork that will be scaled and/or cropped to size, and digitally wrapped around the new Street Library.

Council will pay an artist fee of $1,500 to the successful artist to cover costs and acknowledge their artistic contribution to the city.

Submissions are open until 5pm Thursday 13 July 2023. See here for more details and the Artist Brief.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that this was an opportunity for local artists to flex their creative muscles.

"We're looking for a local artist to create an engaging and original public artwork that can be used to decorate the new Street Library in Corrimal. Artists can use any medium that can be easily photographed and translated into a digital image," Cr Bradbery said.

"This new Street Library will join Council's other Book Boxes which can be found all over the City of Wollongong.

"Street Libraries are a fantastic piece of community infrastructure that encourage people to take a book or leave a book for free. It's a real communal project that has been met by lots of positive feedback from the community."
