Search for overdue vessel, Torres Strait

Police are currently searching for an overdue vessel in the Torres Strait that left Yam Island yesterday, Queensland Police say.

The five meter vessel left Yam Island bound for Mabadauan Village yesterday at around 1.30pm and was anticipated to arrive around 4pm but it hasn’t arrived at its destination.

A man and a woman in their 30s and two boys aged 7 and 4 years old are on board.

Police were notified late last night and have conducted enquiries around surrounding islands, but the vessel hasn’t been located.

A helicopter has also conducted a search overnight, and surface and air searches will continue this morning.
