Police are currently searching for Nathan Crisfield, who escaped from Beachworth Correctional Centre this evening, Victoria Police say.
Investigators have been told the 27-year-old was discovered missing about 7pm.
Crisfield was imprisoned for drug and traffic related offences.
Police have released an image of Crisfield in the hope someone recognises him and can provide information on his current whereabouts.
He is Caucasian in appearance and about 182cm tall with a medium build.
Crisfield was last seen wearing prison greens and may be headed towards the NSW border.
Anyone who sights Crisfield is urged not to approach him but to contact Triple Zero (000).
