Search for swimmer missing near Coffs Harbour

A search is underway for a man who went missing while swimming at a beach on the state's Mid North Coast.

About 5.30pm today (Monday 20 January 2020), emergency services were called to Mullaway Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, after reports of a missing swimmer.

Witnesses have told police the 22-year-old man entered the water and got into trouble. A friend went to the man's aid in attempt to rescue him; however, was unsuccessful and he has not been seen since.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District attended and commenced a search for the man, assisted by the Marine Area Command, Surf Lifesavers, Volunteer Marine Rescue and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
