Inspirational women who are helping to shape the community will be honoured at the 2026 International Women's Day Awards next month.
Nominations are now open in three categories:
- Woman of the Year (25 years and over, as of 1 January 2026)
- Young Woman of the Year award (under 25, as of 1 January 2026)
- Women's Recognition Award ($2000 prize).
Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said the awards provide an opportunity to unite as a community, celebrate the achievements of women, and reflect on the ongoing journey toward gender equality.
"These awards recognise the remarkable contributions women make across our community and the way they inspire future generations to lead with confidence and purpose," Cr Eden said.
"Throughout our region, there are countless women making significant and meaningful contributions every day.
"This year is particularly special as we celebrate 150 years since the founding of Cairns, and the awards ceremony will reflect this milestone."
The winners will be announced at Cairns Regional Council's International Women's Day Award Ceremony on Saturday 7 March from 6.30pm, at Cairns Central.
The centre stage will be transformed for an evening featuring a fashion catwalk, gourmet dining, and an all-female line-up of local entertainment.
Tickets are available at www.eventbrite.com.au, search International Women's Day.
"If you know a woman who has had a positive impact on the community, whether through sport, social or welfare initiatives, or the arts, I strongly encourage you to nominate them," Cr Eden said. "These women serve as powerful role models, and it is important that their efforts are acknowledged and celebrated."
