Search underway for missing woman at Koumala

Mackay police are coordinating a land and air search for a 53-year-old woman missing on a rural property at Koumala.

Helen Barnett was last seen around 3pm on Sunday, February 13 when it is believed she went for a walk on her Turnors Paddock Road property, which encompasses several hundred acres.

Police were notified last night when she failed to return home with patrols conducted in the darkness and rain, which failed to locate her.

A search was launched today using police and SES on foot and in vehicles, including an ATV, as well as assistance from the RACQ CQ rescue helicopter.

The area is remote and rural and bound by large properties that contain heavy bush land, thick vegetation and vast fields of long grass.

Helen is described as Caucasian, approximately 168cms tall with a proportionate build and light brown hair. It is believed she was last wearing a singlet, shorts and thongs.

Anyone with information in relation to Helen's whereabouts is asked to immediately contact police. Rural property owners in the area are asked to check their yards, sheds and shelters.
