Search underway missing man, Tin can bay

Police have commenced a search for a 40-year-old man reported missing in the Tin Can Bay area today (Tuesday, October 12).

Michael Carter left his home address in Gympie yesterday morning to drive to Mothar Mountain, however he failed to arrive.

Concerns are held for Michael's safety and wellbeing as he has failed to contact family or friends, or arrive at his destination.

Police investigations indicate the blue sedan Michael is believed to have been driving was involved in a minor single vehicle crash at around 4.45am today at the intersection of Cooloola and Tin Can Bay Road. The vehicle was found abandoned at this location.

Police have conducted mobile patrols of Tin Can Bay area and searches of the bushland where the car was abandoned. An aerial search has also been conducted with nil sightings and SES are currently assisting with a land search.

Michael s described as Caucasian, approximately 170cm tall with brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a blue and yellow high visibility shirt and brown shorts.

Police are urgently appealing for anyone who has seen Michael or his vehicle or has any information to come them.
