Gilgandra Shire Council wishes to advise the community of ongoing enforcement action conducted on Monday 20th April 2026 in Gilgandra following investigations into reports of unlawful tobacco retailing from a premises.

Acting on information received during the course of investigations, a search warrant operation was conducted at a business premises located on Warren Road, Gilgandra. These premises had previously been the focus of attention in relation to the supply of illegal tobacco products and had been shut down by Council, with an Emergency Stop Use order in force.

During the operation, investigators seized a number of items from the premises relevant to ongoing investigations into the unlawful use of premises for the supply of illegal tobacco products.

Gilgandra Shire Council can confirm that evidence is being reviewed, with the laying of charges against identified persons pending.

The premises remains closed and subject to the Emergency Stop Use order.

Gilgandra Shire Council reiterates its commitment to supporting NSW Police Force and NSW Health Department efforts to eradicate illegal tobacco retailing in the region. The unlawful sale and distribution of prohibited tobacco impacts local amenity and poses significant risks to community health.
