Seasonal Closure for Canadian Coast Guard Stations

Canadian Coast Guard

The following Canadian Coast Guard seasonal search and rescue stations in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, are scheduled to conclude operations for the winter by December 31, 2025:

  • Shippagan, New Brunswick
  • Souris and Summerside, Prince Edward Island
  • Old Perlican, St. Anthony, and Twillingate, Newfoundland and Labrador

The search and rescue stations in Lark Harbour and Port au Choix, Newfoundland and Labrador, have closed for the season.

The public can report an incident 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by calling the regional emergency line.

Ashore, Canadian Coast Guard Marine Communications and Traffic Services centres provide marine safety communications, while the response to each search and rescue case is coordinated by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax and the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre St. John's.

The Canadian Coast Guard search and rescue lifeboat stations in the Atlantic provinces operate either year round or seasonally, based on weather and ice conditions. Winter search and rescue operations continue to be carried out by the Canadian Coast Guard using other available vessels, as required.

The Canadian Coast Guard works closely with colleagues in the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers and local and provincial agencies for search and rescue operations.
