Second Body Modification Arrest, NSW

Central Coast detectives are seeking the extradition from Victoria of an American national, arrested over the alleged genital mutilation of a woman during a body modification procedure, NSW Police say.

At 5.15am today (Thursday 13 September), Victoria Police arrested the 40-year-old tattooist/body modifier as he alighted from a flight from San Francisco at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport.

Apprehended on an interstate warrant, the man has been taken to the Broadmeadows Police Station.

Gosford detectives today are travelling to Melbourne where they are expected to apply to a Victorian court for his transfer to New South Wales.

The man is wanted over the alleged genital mutilation of a 33-year-old woman at a tattoo parlour in Newcastle West on 5 January 2016.

Detectives from the Brisbane Water and Tuggerah Lakes Police Districts formed a joint strike force named ‘Nellievale’ to investigate a series of allegedly illegal body modifications in Newcastle and on the Central Coast.

A 37-year-old body modifier from Terrigal was arrested by Strike Force Nellievale detectives in May in relation to the matter.

He has already appeared in court, charged with ‘prohibition of female genital mutilation, under Section 45 of the NSW Crimes Act.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
