Second charged over home invasion as inquiries continue into Emu Plains fatal stabbing

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a second man over an alleged home invasion as part of ongoing inquiries into the fatal stabbing of a man in Sydney's west last year.

About 8am on Thursday 24 September 2020, emergency services were called to a reserve on Russell Street at Emu Plains, after the body of a man had been located.

He has since been formally identified as a 22-year-old Minchinbury man.

A vehicle found crashed nearby was seized for forensic examination.

Detectives from Nepean Police Area Command and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad established Strike Force Mathinna to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

So far during the investigation, five men – aged 21, 22, 23, 25 and 26 – have been arrested. They were all charged over their alleged roles in the incident and remain before the courts.

As part of ongoing inquiries, officers arrested a 27-year-old man at a home at Shalvey about 10am on Friday 29 January 2021.

He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (weapon).

Police will allege in court the man was involved in a home invasion at a property in Sydney's west prior to the stabbing.

The Hman appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday 30 January 2021, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear at Penrith Local Court today (Friday 19 March 2021).

Investigations by Strike Force Mathinna are continuing.
