Second driver interviewed over Monash Freeway race

State Highway Patrol officers have interviewed a second man following an alleged race between two cars on the Monash Freeway last night.

Police were patrolling the Monash Freeway in an unmarked vehicle when they were overtaken by two speeding cars about 7.10pm.

A white Mercedes coupe and grey Mitsubishi Lancer allegedly weaved in and out of traffic and reached alleged speeds of 201km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Officers attempted to intercept the Mitsubishi, but the driver failed to stop and continued at speed.

The driver of the Mercedes was intercepted and returned an alleged evidentiary breath test reading of 0.065.

The 30-year-old man from Keysborough had his licence immediately suspended and his car impounded for 30 days at a cost of $932.40.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was later identified and a 25-year-old Carrum Downs man was interviewed by police this afternoon.

He has been served a notice to surrender his vehicle.

Both men are expected to be charged on summons with exceeding the speed limit, driving at a speed and manner dangerous and drink driving.
