Second fatal crash in Riverina village in 24 hours

A driver has died in a crash between a car and b-double in the same village 45km north-west of Albury where, only hours earlier, a man died and four people were injured.

Just after 8:20pm (Thursday 28 March 2019), emergency services were called to Sweetwater Creek Bridge on the Hume Highway at Mullengandra, following reports of a crash between a Mazda utility, that was towing a Morris Minor van on a trailer, and a B-double truck.

Mazda utility flipped onto its roof on impact and caught fire; the driver, a 63-year-old Queensland man, died at the scene.

The 46-year-old truck driver was treated before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition with head and back injuries.

Officers from Murray River Police District remain at the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
