Second man arrested after North Melbourne kidnapping

Armed Crime Squad detectives have arrested a second man following an alleged kidnapping in North Melbourne in July.

A 19-year-old Carlton man was arrested in Carlton yesterday morning and interviewed by police.

He was subsequently charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, extortion, theft and drive unregistered vehicle.

The man was remanded overnight to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.

The charges follow an incident on 14 July where police were called following reports a 26-year-old North Melbourne man had been kidnapped and assaulted.

It is alleged that after the man was kidnapped demands were made for his return.

The victim was released later that evening and had sustained minor injuries.

On 27 August, an 18-year-old Werribee man was arrested and charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, extortion with threat to inflict serious injury, intentionally cause injury and theft of a motor vehicle.

He is currently remanded in custody.
