Second teen dies following crash in stolen car near Gilgandra, NSW

A second teen has died after an alleged stolen car crashed in the state’s mid-west earlier this week.

Just after 6.30am on Sunday 2 December 2018, a Ford Mondeo lost control and rolled while travelling on the Castlereagh Highway at Gulargambone, about 25 kilometres north of Gilgandra.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, died at the scene, NSW Police say.

A 16-year-old male passenger suffered critical head injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital where he died last night (Friday 7 December 2018).

Four other passengers, all male, were taken to Dubbo and Gilgandra hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.

Officers from Orana-Mid Western Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and appealing for anyone who witnessed it to come forward.

The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a home in Coonamble the previous week.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
