Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić had a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel in the Europa Building Forum in Brussels. The meeting focused on the upcoming Council of Europe Fourth Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Reykjavik (16th - 17th May).
Marija Pejčinović Burić emphasized the need to ensure accountability in Ukraine, highlighting her proposal to set up a register to record and document evidence and claims of damage, loss, or injury resulting from the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Moreover, the Secretary General underlined the relevance of the Council of Europe Contact Group with representatives of the Belarusian democratic opposition and civil society.
Cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union, including the EU accession to the European Convention of Human Rights was also part of the agenda.
