Securing Future Of Camp Clayton

Tasmanian Government

One of Tasmania's most-loved youth camps will undergo major upgrades with funding from the Tasmanian Government.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff visited Camp Clayton to announce that the 2025-26 Budget will include $520,000 for this iconic not-for-profit to deliver infrastructure upgrades on site.

The funding injection will help deliver new and improved outdoor adventure-based infrastructure, road upgrades, new bathrooms, the transition to sustainable energy and accessibility upgrades.

"For the past 75 years, Camp Clayton has welcomed tens of thousands of Tasmanians through its gates, providing young people with the opportunity to learn independence, leadership, life skills and self-worth," Premier Rockliff said.

"The Tasmanian Government is building a better Tasmania: now, and for the future - and this funding will ensure Camp Clayton continues to be a much-loved destination for schools and community groups for decades to come.

"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are delivering on the things that matter to Tasmanians.

Independent Member for Braddon, Miriam Beswick, said it was a wonderful outcome for a much-loved North West organisation.

"I was proud to endorse Camp Clayton's bid for this vital funding," Mrs Beswick said.

"Costs for the camp have increased dramatically in recent years, so this support will provide the team the confidence it needs to plan for future.

"I'll continue to work constructively with the Premier on positive outcomes for Braddon."

Camp Clayton CEO, Melle Zwerver, said this is a game changer for Camp Clayton and for thousands of young Tasmanians.

"Securing this funding is more than just a win for our site—it's a vote of confidence in the power of camps to build resilience, connection, and lifelong memories for the next generation," Mr Zwerver said.

"We're incredibly grateful for the trust placed in us, and we're excited to keep creating a place where young people thrive."

The Tasmanian Budget continues to ensure we have a strong economy by backing business and economic growth.

"It gets the balance right, and delivers on what we said we would do," Premier Rockliff said.
