If you’re in the vicinity Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast in the early hours of Tuesday morning (20/02/2018), and Marina Mirage in the early hours of Wednesday morning (21/02/2018) you might witness some unusual activity, Queensland Police say.
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) in conjunction with specialist officers from the Queensland Police Service will be conducting a two-day joint security training exercise to ensure that the ADF is as prepared as possible to support the QPS in keeping Queensland safe during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
As a part of this exercise the public may see and/or hear military watercraft and vehicles, tactical equipment and soldiers carrying weapons and possibly discharging blank/paint training ammunition.
Police would like to reassure the community that there is no need to be alarmed should you hear or observe these activities, it is all part of the training exercise. The locations used have been chosen for their training value and not in response to any threat. Currently, there is no known specific threat to Queensland, or the Commonwealth Games however, the current National Terrorism Threat Level for Australia remains at Probable.
These exercises are an important component of the Australian Government’s commitment to ensuring that we host a safe and secure Games.
The exercise will occur in the early hours of Tuesday morning to minimise disruptions to the community.
