See how Macleay can reverse climate change by 2040

Kempsey Shire Council

2040 movie

Those who are passionate or sceptical about climate change will have the opportunity in May to see a positive, hopeful vision for the future of Kempsey and the planet.

Macleay Living Sustainably, with the support of Kempsey Shire Council, are holding two event screenings of the documentary 2040 movie in the wake of the recent natural disasters that have impacted our shire.

2040 is an award-winning documentary in which director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film) travels the world to meet innovators and changemakers in the areas of economics, technology, civil society, agriculture, education and sustainability to identify the best solutions, available to us now, that would help improve the health of our planet and the societies that operate within it

It is a story of hope that looks at the very real possibility that humanity could reverse global warming and improve the lives of every living thing in the process.

2040 is also an ever-changing story about an ongoing project, which underpins the desire to hold these new 2040 event screenings.

Macleay Living Sustainably first screened 2040 at Oddfellows in November 2019 in the wake of the drought and bushfires.

"Not only was it a resounding success but it inspired Council to purchase more copies so everyone in the local community could see it," said Macleay living Sustainably founder Genevieve Furber.

"We wanted to revisit the story of 2040 to see what has actually been achieved in furthering the sustainable practices it has fostered and encouraged throughout the world. We will be screening some of these actions and stories after the film, followed by a discussion with the audience at the end."

There will be two screenings of the film at Majestic Cinemas, Kempsey Central, funded by Kempsey Shire Council. The first at 4.30pm Saturday 1 May and the second at noon Sunday 23 May. Tickets are at the discounted price of $6 with net profits going towards Sustainability Fest.

"The underlying concept behind the film – of building on sustainable practices already being carried out – inspired MLS to apply this to our local region and hence was born the idea of the Sustainability Fest, which comes to fruition in June."

The inaugural Macleay Valley Sustainability Fest will be held over two days. The first will showcase sustainability practices including, market and information stalls. The second day will be a forum with workshops and experts in a wide variety of sustainability issues.
