The City of Casey celebrated the official opening of the Selandra Recreation Reserve in Clyde North on Tuesday 30 March.
With rapid population growth being experienced in Clyde North, delivery of this $9.98 million dollar facility will provide much needed infrastructure and help ease the pressure on surrounding community facilities and recreation reserves.
Located at 55 Heather Grove, Clyde North, the facility includes three soccer pitches, two cricket ovals, a multipurpose community pavilion including six change rooms with unisex amenities, a community room, sports floodlighting, cricket nets, a playground and public seating.
City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM and Casey Chief Executive Officer Glenn Patterson attended the facility's officially opening to celebrate the new community facility.
"As one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria, Casey has the significant challenge of matching a growing population with the services and infrastructure required," Ms Duff said.
"This facility demonstrates Council's commitment to putting the community at the forefront of future planning, as we recognise the important role facilities like these play, acting as vital anchors which help grow greater community connectedness and increase the health and wellbeing outcomes for our residents."
The state government contributed $1.5 million through the Growing Suburbs Fund and an additional $800,000 was contributed from the Sport and Recreation Community Infrastructure Fund, with Council's own contribution of $2.7 million.
The facility will also be the future home of the Southern United Football Club throughout the winter season, and during the summer season one of Casey's many existing Victorian Sunday Cricket Association Clubs will utilise the facility.
Council is also working closely with Cricket Victoria to establish a new cricket club who will play and train at the facility during the summer months.
