Sell out for Hawks vs Magpies blockbuster

Tickets to the blockbuster AFL clash this Sunday between Hawthorn and Collingwood have sold out in less than an hour today.

As we've always said, if you bring the big clubs to Tasmania, Tasmanians will turn up - and tickets for the game at UTAS Stadium in Launceston have been snapped up.

This is the first time Collingwood has been in Tasmania since 2015, when they played a pre-season game, and for the first time ever they will play for premiership points in our State – making history.

This is a great outcome for Tasmania, and in particular for local businesses in Launceston and surrounds who will benefit from the expected increase in trade as people get out and about before and after the game to see what the city has to offer.

Tasmania has demonstrated it can host AFL matches in a COVID-safe way, and despite Victoria being classified as a low risk location, the game will proceed under strict COVID-safe conditions, with important safeguards in place, including with a capped crowd and mask wearing for spectators.

Our message to Tasmanians is to get out and enjoy this blockbuster AFL game, but if you are coming to the footy – it's not just your scarf or beanie that you need to bring along – you'll also need your mask.

Thanks to the AFL and the clubs involved for working so closely and constructively with the Government and our Public Health authorities, and I look forward to another great weekend of footy ahead.
