A senior Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged following an investigation into sexual acts allegedly performed in front of female employees at a correctional facility in the state's Central Tablelands.
Earlier this month, detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad's Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force Winrow to investigate allegations of inappropriate behaviour at a facility in Bathurst.
During the investigation, police received information relating to sexual acts being performed at the facility by a senior male correctional officer on numerous occasions over the past six years.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 50-year-old man at Orange about 9am today (Thursday 22 April 2021).
He was taken to Orange Police Station and charged with eight counts of incite other to do sexual act with them without consent, two counts of common assault and five counts of incite aggravated indecency (victim under authority).
Police will allege in court that the man performed the sexual acts in front of five women – aged between 35 and 56 – between 2015 and 2021, while they were employed at the correctional facility.
The man was given bail to appear at Orange Local Court on Monday 31 May 2021.
He has been suspended by Corrective Services NSW.
Robbery and Serous Crime Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis, said police take all reports of misconduct offences extremely seriously.
"Police and Corrective Services NSW have taken swift and appropriate action after commencing an investigation earlier this month," Det Supt Koutsoufis said.
"It will be alleged that this man used his position to take advantage of female employees in the workplace for his own sexual gratification.
"This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the community. Every employee should feel safe and respected while carrying out their duties.
"If offences of this nature occur in any workplace, we encourage employees to notify police," Det Supt Koutsoufis said.
