Leeton Shire seniors are invited to celebrate connection, creativity and community as part of the 2026 NSW Seniors Festival, running from Monday 2 March to Sunday 15 March 2026.
This year's theme, 'Live life in colour', encourages seniors to embrace new experiences, stay active and celebrate both lifelong achievements and the adventures still to come.
Mayor of Leeton Shire, Cr George Weston, said the festival is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important role seniors play in the community.
"Our seniors are the backbone of our community. They contribute through volunteering, mentoring, caring roles and sharing their knowledge and life experience," Cr Weston said.
"The NSW Seniors Festival is a chance for us to say thank you and to provide opportunities for older residents to connect, learn something new and most importantly enjoy themselves."
- A highlight of the local program is the Leeton Seniors Expo, hosted by the Leeton Shire Library, on Thursday 5 March 2026 from 10am at the Leeton Uniting Church. With the theme 'Learning, Living, Connecting', the expo will bring together local support and aged care services, offering valuable information and resources to help seniors stay informed and empowered. Special guest and author Isabel Baker (A to Z of Dementia Care) will speak at the expo, sharing insights and stories with attendees at 11am.
- The Leeton Roxy Community Theatre will also present a special Seniors Festival performance of Growing Old Ungracefully on Wednesday 11 March 2026 at 10.30am. Performed by acclaimed entertainer David Scheel, Growing Old Ungracefully delivers witty and sophisticated comedy exploring the realities of ageing, from health and modern life to the quirks and challenges that come with growing older. The performance is complemented by Scheel's renowned piano artistry, promising an entertaining and uplifting morning at the Roxy. Tickets include show AND morning tea (Tickets are $32 per person or $30 per person for groups of 8+).
Mayor Weston encouraged local seniors to take part in the celebrations.
"There is something for everyone in this year's program, whether you are interested in learning, enjoying live performance or simply catching up with friends," he said.
"I encourage our seniors to get involved, try something new and truly live life in colour this March."
