Congratulations to September's Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month

Cricket Victoria congratulates Sean McCann of Strathdale-Maristians Cricket Club (SMCC), awarded Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month for September.

Sean's leadership and energy have been instrumental in strengthening women's and girls' cricket at SMCC. When the club faced the possibility of not fielding a senior women's team last season, Sean spearheaded recruitment efforts, running come-and-try sessions and reconnecting with players. His determination saw SMCC enter two senior women's sides, an Under 16 girls team and a girls' Under 12 mixed team - with more growth on the way this summer.

As Club President, Sean does it all - from coaching senior women's and junior teams, to setting up grounds at dawn, to managing the needs of 200+ junior families. His ability to inspire others through "micro-volunteering" has created a thriving, community-driven club culture.

Cricket is also a family affair for Sean, with wife Trish and their three children - Mitch, Emma and Ella - all sharing in the joy of SMCC.

Sean's passion and commitment truly embody the spirit of grassroots cricket. Cricket Victoria proudly recognises and congratulates him as our September 2025 Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month.

As part of this recognition, Sean will receive a $200 Kookaburra Voucher for Strathdale-Maristians Cricket Club.

Do you have a local hero at your club that you would like to put in the spotlight?
