Serious assault charges at Townsville Hospital, QLD

Police have charged a man following an alleged assault at Townsville Hospital on Friday, April 27, Queensland Police say.

Officers were called to the hospital at around 2.45pm following reports of an assault.

It will be alleged the man assaulted a doctor by striking him in the arm with an IV pole and spat on a nurse before being restrained by security staff until police arrived.

A 37-year-old Stuart man has been charged with one count each of serious assault a public officer performing a function causing bodily harm whilst armed with a weapon, serious assault a public officer performing a function by spitting and conduct causing a public nuisance under the Hospital and Health Boards Act.

The man was denied police bail and appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody to re-appear before the court today.
