Serious Assault Charges, Varsity Lakes

Police have charged a man following a serious assault in Varsity Lakes last night, 12 December.

Around 10.38pm, a 27-year-old Varsity Lakes woman was walking along Christine Avenue, when she located an 18-year-old Carrara man unconscious and with serious head injuries.

It is alleged the man had been assaulted by a 34-year-old man, not known to him.

Upon calling emergency services for assistance, it is alleged the same offender, who had been waiting nearby, then assaulted the woman.

Police arrived at the scene a short time later and took a 34-year-old man into custody.

During his arrest, it is further alleged the man spat on a police officer.

A 34-year-old Moggill man has since been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, serious assault police officer and common assault.

He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today, 13 December.

The woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The 18-year-old man was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
