Police are seeking further assistance in relation to an incident at South Townsville on Saturday, 23 May.
At 11.18pm, police were called to Palmer Street following reports of a disturbance.
Officers attended the scene and took a 51-year-old Wulguru man into custody.
A 72-year-old woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening head injuries and was transported to Townsville University Hospital.
The man has since been charged with one count each of affray in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, possession of a knife in a public place, and two counts of obstructing a police officer.
He is expected to appear at the Townsville Magistrates Court on 12 June.
Detectives from the Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch believe the woman may have been assisted by a member of the public and are appealing for this person to contact police to assist with further investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
