Serious assault police at Mornington Island, QLD

Police have charged a 17-year-old man with a number of offences following an incident at Mornington Island on December 25, Queensland Police say.

At about 10pm, police have attended an altercation occurring in the street with several people.

It is alleged during this incident, a 17-year-old man was arrested for possessing a dangerous drug.

Following his arrest, he has allegedly assaulted a female officer by biting her finger.

The officer was treated at the scene and taken to Mornington Island Hospital for further treatment.

A 17-year-old local man has been charged with one count of serious assault police, two counts of obstruct police and one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

He appeared in the Mornington Island Magistrates Court today where he was remanded in custody to reappear on January 16, 2018.
