Serious assault police charge in Manunda, QLD

A man has been charged after a police officer was assaulted this morning in Manunda, Queensland Police say.

Officers were called to a shopping centre on Koch Street around 11.10 this morning following reports that a man was causing a disturbance.

As the man was being spoken to by police, it will be alleged that he then struck a male officer in the face with his elbow before fleeing the centre.

The officer was knocked unconscious and was taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A man was taken into custody later this afternoon.

A 31-year-old Woree man has been charged with one count each of serious assault police and public nuisance.

He is due to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
