Serious assault police charges in Townsville, QLD

Police have charged a man following a serious assault police incident from overnight, Queensland Police say.

Around 11.50pm, police attended a licenced premise on Flinders Street in response to reports of a man creating a disturbance.

As police attempted to arrest the man, it will be alleged that he kicked one male officer in the groin before biting a second male officer on the leg.

The kicked officer was taken to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

A 34-year-old Townsville man has been charged with two counts of serious assault police and one count each of commit public nuisance and obstruct police.

He has been bailed to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on August 31.
