Serious assault police in Slade Point, QLD

Three police officers were assaulted during an arrest in Slade Point last night with one officer receiving minor injuries, Queensland Police say.

Around 8.50pm, police attended a Blackwood Street address as part of enquiries into a robbery.

There they located a man wanted in relation to other matters and took him into custody.

It will be alleged that as he was being led from the house, a man and a woman approached the officers and began to assault them.

The officers were allegedly punched and one officer choked. A taser was deployed on the man to stop him choking the officer.

While being arrested by other police, the woman while on the ground grabbed a stick and swung it at police narrowly missing the officer.

During the struggle, the man originally taken in custody fled on foot.

A search with the help of the Criminal Investigation Branch and the Mackay Dog Squad failed to locate him.

A 22-year-old Brandon woman has been charged with two counts of serious assault police and obstruct police as well as one count of serious assault police and one further charge of serious assault police with the stick.

A 40-year-old man has also been charged with two counts of serious assault police.

They are due to appear in Mackay Magistrates Court today.

A male officer, a sergeant, received only minor injuries.
