A 23-year-old Oxenford man is in the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition after he was punched during a physical altercation in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning, Queensland Police say.
Around 3am two groups of men were involved in a physical dispute in Orchid Avenue.
Early investigations indicate the 23-year-old man intervened to stop the fight when he was punched from behind, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.
The men involved in the fight fled the scene but were located by police at The Esplanade a short time later.
Two men, aged 27 and 29 years old, are presently assisting police with their investigation.
