Serious traffic crash at Quanaba, QLD

Police are investigating after a car and locomotive collided at a rail crossing at Quanaba this morning, Queensland Police say.

Preliminary information suggests the train, which was towing 10 bins full of sugar cane, was involved in a crash with a sedan on Burnett Heads Road around 11.15am.

The force of the impact caused the locomotive and three of the cane bins to derail, blocking Burnett Heads Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the sedan, a 50-year-old woman from Burnett Heads, was transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

The three occupants of the train were uninjured.

The road was closed to traffic for several hours but has now reopened.

Investigations are continuing.
