Serious traffic crash, stealing and fraud – Albion

A 37-year-old Albion man has been charged following a three-vehicle traffic crash in Albion yesterday morning, Queensland Police say.

Preliminary investigations indicate just after 7am, the man’s hatchback allegedly struck a motorcycle which was stationary at a red light on Albion Road, which catapulted the motorcycle rider onto the bonnet of the man’s car.

It will further be alleged the force of the impact pushed both vehicles into the intersection which collided with a sedan turning from McLennon Street.

The motorcycle rider received non-life-threatening neck and spine injuries and was transferred to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver and sole occupant of the sedan was cut from the vehicle and transferred to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with shoulder and neck injuries.

Police will allege the driver of the hatchback returned a positive roadside drug test and a subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a large amount of suspected stolen mail from across North Brisbane.

The 37-year-old Albion man has been charged with drug driving in relation to the incident.

He has additionally been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of receiving tainted property and four counts of fraud (dishonest application of property of another) from earlier offences and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 7.

Investigations into the suspected mail theft are continuing.
