Serious Two Vehicle Crash – Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay

An 82 year old female from Taroona is in a serious condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital as the result of a two vehicle crash on Sandy Bay Road opposite Wrest Point Casino.

At 1:18pm on Wednesday, 20th of November 2019 a southbound Toyota Corolla collided with a northbound Izuzu truck in the northbound lane of Sandy Bay Road. As a result of the collision the truck caught fire.

Members of the public provided immediate assistance to extinguish the fire and assist the female driver.

Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police attended the crash. The female was treated by paramedics before being transported to hospital.

Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services attended the scene and carried out an investigation.

Sandy Bay Road was closed between Nelson Road and Derwent Water Avenue for four hours whilst investigations were carried out.

Police would like to thank motorists for their patience during this time.
