On 1 and 2 October, ESCWA organized the seventh meeting of the Technical Advisory Group on Demographic and Social Statistics in Arab countries. Participants reviewed the programme of ESCWA to support the promotion and modernization of demographic and social statistics in the region and discussed the role of the Commission in providing the necessary technical support in relevant areas.
They also assessed the availability of data on demographic and social indicators, proposed methodologies to address data gaps and improve data quality, and discussed emerging methodological issues and global developments, as well as ongoing initiatives for statistical capacity development.
The meeting also introduced participants to the Arab Development Portal and received hands-on training on how to utilize its various functions.
