Sever Weather Warning

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for for people in the Central Forecast District, which includes Hume City.

Conditions to be expected:

  • Damaging south-westerly winds averaging 55 to 65 km/h with gusts around 100 km/h are expected in the Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne bayside suburbs, Mornington Peninsula, Wilsons Promontory and surrounds between 11pm and 5am.
  • Winds are expected to ease central areas by sunrise Saturday and from the east by the early afternoon.
Prepare to take shelter and be aware of potential hazards caused by the severe weather. Hazards include damaged buildings, trees down and fallen powerlines.
What you should do:
  • Secure any loose items, including outdoor furniture and trampolines
  • Park your car undercover and away from trees.
  • Stay inside if conditions outside appear dangerous.
  • Contact family members and neighbours to ensure they are aware of the situation, if safe to do so.
  • Check that loose items such as outdoor furniture, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured before the severe weather arrives.
  • Expect power outages, charge your devices now.
  • Avoid travel if possible.
If you are driving:
  • If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low lying areas and floodwater.
  • Be aware of road hazards such as mud, debris and damaged roads or bridges.

Stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings.
