Sexual assault, Slade Point

Mackay police are appealing for public information after a woman was assaulted at a Slade Point beach this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

Around 1pm a woman aged in her 20s was lying on the beach at Lamberts Beach when an unknown man lay down on top of her.

The woman struggled as the man was grabbing at her, causing him to flee.

The woman was not physically injured however was extremely distressed following the assault.

The man is described as aged in his 40s, approximately 170cms tall, bald with a chubby build and ‘pot belly’. He had a dark complexion and is of Pacific Islander in appearance.

He was wearing a dark coloured singlet and shorts and was seen leaving in an early model Holden Commodore, possibly grey or silver.

Detectives would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident, including anyone visiting Lamberts Lookout which has a view of the beach where the assault occurred.

Police believe members of the public may have mobile phone recordings that could assist with their investigations and are urging anyone with these to contact police as soon as possible.
