Shaping future of Katherine East

Northern Territory Planning Commission (NTPC)

The Northern Territory Planning Commission is now commencingthe second stage of community consultation in Katherine to seek feedback on thedraft Area Plan for the suburb of Katherine East.

The draft Area Plan intends to provide long-term guidancefor future residential and commercial land use in the area and incorporatesfeedback received from the community through the first round of consultationheld in October 2018.

To support the development of the Plan, investigativestudies were undertaken on social infrastructure, transport and stormwater drainagein Katherine.

Chairperson of the Planning Commission, Dr David Ritchie,said that the Planning Commission is encouraging the community to get involvedto help refine the future vision for Katherine East.

We have incorporated elements of the natural landscape toshape the suburb, including the establishment of green space networks andconnectivity, Dr Ritchie said.

The draft Area Plan includes two flood-free mixed use neighbourhoodcentres, future land for health and education needs and a range of future communityspaces.

The Planning Commission invites the Katherine community andindustry stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft Area Plan by visitingour upcoming pop-up stalls and information stands.

The first information stand will be held on Saturday 18 May 2019at the Katherine Community Markets from 8:00am 1:00pm.
