Sheffield Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service has been awarded accreditation through the Royal College of Physicians' Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services Accreditation Scheme (PRSAS), recognising that the service meets nationally recognised standards for delivering high-quality, safe and patient-centred pulmonary rehabilitation. Sheffield is the first service in South Yorkshire and only the fifth service across the North East and Yorkshire to achieve PRSAS accreditation, demonstrating its commitment to clinical excellence and continuous quality improvement.
The assessment highlighted the team's strong leadership, inclusive culture, multidisciplinary working, innovation and commitment to reducing health inequalities. The achievement also reflects close collaboration across South Yorkshire, with colleagues from Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham working together to share learning and best practice as they progress towards achieving accreditation themselves. Financial support was provided by SYICB for a regional project support role which has been invaluable and subscription fees for the first 2 years.

I'd like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported us throughout this journey, including our patients, colleagues, managers, partners and the wider South Yorkshire pulmonary rehabilitation teams. We've worked collaboratively across the region, sharing knowledge and supporting one another, and we look forward to celebrating Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham as they achieve accreditation in the near future. This has truly been a team effort, and we're excited to continue building on this success for the benefit of people living with chronic respiratory disease across Sheffield and South Yorkshire.
