Local farmers are getting support to adopt more regenerative and climate resilient practices, thanks to a regional collaboration helping producers strengthen their operations for the future.
This week, the Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Hon. Julie Collins MP, officially launched the Climate-Smart Agriculture Project at Meet Me At The Gate in Officer South, alongside Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh and Deputy Mayor Paul Pingiaro with fellow project partners and stakeholders.
The Climate-Smart Agriculture Project brings together farmers, councils, landcare and agricultural groups across the region to support sustainable farming.
Mornington Peninsula Shire will receive over $279,000 through the 3-year initiative to deliver an exciting new project 'Farming Our Way' and associated activities.
Farming Our Way helps local producers adopt regenerative practices, restore natural resources, strengthen their businesses and share knowledge with fellow farmers.
The Climate-Smart Agriculture Project is a regional collaboration, with delivery partners including MP Wine, Westernport Catchment Landcare Network, Bass Coast Landcare Network, Agribusiness Yarra Valley and Berries Australia.
Quote attributable to Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh:
"We're really proud to be part of this regional effort. Our local farmers are incredibly important to our community and our landscape. This funding helps us continue supporting them to adapt and thrive into the future."
